Some years ago I took a class that focused on self-actualization through meditation, astral projection, past life regression, and the like.
During the last class, the teacher told me I was the most self-defeating person she ever met.
I laughed it off, figuring my tradition of showing up drunk to the Friday afternoon session irked her, or maybe my chakras were out of alignment.
Now that I’m unemployed and in my 30s, I wonder if she was on to something.
Here is a fellow bloggers comment:
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed – I enjoyed your post about interviews. I have written a few posts on the same subject, including my suggestions on how NOT to interview people! Job hunting – which I have to do at the moment – is my least fun activity in the world. Good luck with your search!

Congratulations!

Scary. I’ve had that same thought a million times, wondering if I’m self-defeating and trying to identify the behaviors.
When I got laid off in 2009, I was the most productive person in my department with the biggest book of business while serving on every product and process committee we had. I was also the guy who did all the special writing projects. One day they called me in the office and said I was being let go, without explanation.
I’m working again, but at a lower salary. Since I can’t see any reason I was let go relating to work quality, I figure it must be a “me” quality. Like I’m self-defeating but I can’t see what it is.
Weird. No wonder we get along.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m still reeling from being FreshlyPressed, so I’m slow to visiting some of my commenters. I’m enjoying your page so far!
I recently conducted an interview for my blog; but if you’d like to interview me for your blog you’re more than welcome to.
Cheers!
