The BLT (Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato) is a type of bacon sandwich. The standard BLT is made up of five ingredients:bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and bread. The five ingredients can be altered according to preference; for example, the bread can be toasted and the mayonnaise home-made or replaced with ranch dressing. The sandwich has a high sodium and fat content, and has been specifically targeted by UK café chains in an effort to reduce salt and fat.
The BLT evolved from the tea sandwiches served before 1900 at a similar time to the club sandwich, although it is unclear when the name BLT became the norm. It is currently one of the most popular sandwiches both in the United States and the United Kingdom, enjoyed by all social classes. The sandwich’s popularity has led to a number of oversized reproductions (the current record for the “world’s largest BLT” is over 209 feet (64 m)) and a pop art sculpture by Claes Oldenburg.

Topic #96:
Write about something to do with bacon.
Do you like it?
hate it?
Wish there more of it, or less?
Do you like the way it looks, or do you wish you never saw it again?
What do you think of bacon flavored chocolate, or the significance of the phrase “brining home the bacon?”
Topic submitted by the folks at the Mike/Mitch project, a food blog, where they have many recipes, include a few using bacon.
My favorite meal in the hot summer is a nice Bacon-L-and Tomato sandwich.
I don’t toast mine do you?
I also love mayo!

I love BLT sandwiches, and I prefer to toast my bread, and I sometimes add cheese. I actually have BLT’s on my weekly menu for tomorrow nights dinner, along with some tomato soup. Thank God for the bacon post today! LOL

Your post made me hungry…I love bacon. I prefer thick cut, cooked crispy. Toasted bread and mayo are a must for BLTs and I love avocado on it if I have one on hand. Boy, I need to add “bacon” to my grocery list!
As much as I love bacon, I’m not sold on the chocolate-covered bacon idea. Sounds gross to me…

Oh My Goodness Droooool… That just looks so good. Although I prefer BET (bacon, egg, tomato)Ya gotta have the egg. It’s like burgers a burger without an egg just don’t make the grade.

I love bacon toasted sandwiches, and I would say it’s as popular here in Australia as it is in the United States and United Kingdom! I just love bacon anyway!
Loved the history of the BLT sandwich!

Jackie, are you living inside my head right now? I love, love, love bacon. I love my BLT toasted with lots of bacon, iceberg lettuce, easy on the mayo, and I presalt my tomatoes on a paper towel so that the sandwich does not get soggy…I don’t like sog! It is quite possibly the perfect food!! Thank you!!
