Hello everyone, today I want to share with you some things I am learning on my new job as a Security Officer. I had the delightful opportunity to “learn to use and ride a SEGWAY.” The article you cannot read is about the developer who originally developed this product Jimi OBE (1948-2010).
The Segway PT is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle invented by Dean Kamen. It is produced by Segway Inc. of New Hampshire, USA. The name “Segway” (/ˈsɛɡwej/) is a homophone of “segue” (/ˈsɛɡweɪ/) (a smooth transition, literally Italian for “follows”) while “PT” denotes personal transporter.
Owner of Segway Company Dies in Segway Accident back in 2010. The segway is an electric scooter that you stand on and operate. It is well known in many countries and is newer to Illinois. The scooter that Jimi died on had a malfunction. Yes, sad but true. According to Wikipedia:
The 62-year-old millionaire Jimi Heselden crashed into the River Wharfe in Northern England while inspecting his North Yorkshire estate, according to multiple reports.
Heselden was riding a rugged-country version of the Segway, which was also recovered at the scene, according to the Telegraph.
Unveiled in 2001, the Segway was invented by Dean Kamen, who dreamed of launching a transportation revolution. The scooter contains five gyroscopes linked to a set of computers to monitor a rider’s center of gravity.
Heselden, chairman of Hesco Bastian and a former miner who earned millions from defense contracts, purchased the Segway company in early 2010.
It took me around Six hours to master this training series and now I will be able to see better as it makes me much taller.
Has anyone ridden one?
This week of training has me exhausted. I guess you could say a great “training/school” for me!

Looks like it would be fun to ride, but it’s obviously not as easy as it looks!
I’ve seen people on them but never rode one… It was quite shocking when I heard the news of Jimi’s death… very sad. Best wishes on your new job!
I have been so I trigger by these and have wondered why we don’t see more of them! You may be exhausted but hang in there and thanks fir such I treating information on this contraption! I definitely will try one when I get the chance!
My daughter worked security for K-Mart. They call it loss prevention. One way people tried to steal or get return money was to scour discarded receipts in the parking lot and go to get that item in the store.
This is a common scam here, they are on top of it, thank god.
You must be so proud of yourself, I am, because I would not be found on one of those, I would be a 911 call after a few minutes. That is wonderful!
I’ve never used a segway but they look like fun! When I lived in Washington, DC, we often saw groups of tourists tooling around the district on segways.
